As a personal stylist, I am shopping all year round. While my clients have vastly different wardrobes and lifestyles, there are always a few products that stand out. These items are selected by so many people of different ages, backgrounds, and personal tastes--they're hard to ignore. The gifts on this list are sure to please the most discerning women on your shopping list this holiday season.
Gifts Under $50
B.P. Layered Charm Necklace, $19
A layered necklace can add the perfect amount of sparkle to any outfit. These inexpensive sets from BP at Nordstrom are ideal--even for those of us with skin on the sensitive side.
Street Level Faux Leather Reversible Tote, $48
I discovered this tote earlier this year when shopping with a client who doesn't like hardware on bags. Since finding this tote in the Spring, three other clients purchased it. I even gifted one to my accountant! She couldn't stop raving about how useful it was during a recent trip to New York.
As a full size tote, it can easily be a "Mom Bag" for friends who are out of the diaper stage, but still don't want to ruin a $500 bag with spilled sippy cups. Alternatively, it's also a great work bag since it can fit a laptop and a few notebooks.
As an extra benefit, this is faux leather, making it an appropriate gift for any vegans on your list. This bag truly does it all for under $50.
Deepa Gurnani Earrings, $45
I enjoy these earrings so much. They are similar to a pair of Oscar de la Renta earrings that retail for ten times this price.
Le Specs No Biggie Sunglasses, $47.20
The styling of these sunglasses manages to walk the line between classic and current quite nicely. The taupey-brown hue is also flattering on most skin tones. They are very lightweight and work with all face shapes.
Gifts Under $100
Kisses Bucket Bag, $78
For the girly, glamorous, and whimsical in your life, I present the Kisses Bucket Bag. It is the quintessential bag for a date or girl's night out. It's also available in silver.
Spanx Faux Leather Legging, $98
Throughout the year, I lost count of the amount of clients who purchased a pair of Spanx's faux leather leggings. They are comfortable, flattering, and look much more expensive than they are. However, I must caution you to only buy clothing for those you are really close to--like your best friend, sister, or wife. If you're not comfortable asking her size, don't buy her clothing. Stick to the accessories. The beauty of accessories is they are truly one size fits all.
Kendra Scott Wide Cuff, $75
I have recommended this cuff several times for evening wear, especially when my clients are about to attend a glamorous wedding. Kendra Scott's jewelry is unique, modern, and comfortable--even on sensitive skin. That's why she's one of America's richest self-made women.
Gifts Under $500
Movado Bold Leather Strap Watch, $395
For the minimalist on your list, this Movado watch makes the perfect present. With all that modern sleekness, this watch is also an accessory that allows you to mix your black and brown garments without looking silly.
Stella McCartney x Adidas Yellow Sneakers, $119
For your loved ones who are active, or striving to be more so, these yellow sneakers are delightful. Put some sunshine in her workout with these showstopping, lightweight trainers.
Naadam Oversized Turtleneck, $395
An oversized statement sweater is the perfect gift for the trendiest woman on your list. Rendered in the perfect salmon pink, in a luxe mohair and wool fabric, this cozy sweater can be paired with anything from jeans to tweed skirts.
Personal Styling Appointment, $227 and Up
Of course, sometimes we are looking for something extra special for those nearest and dearest to us. If you want to really dazzle, may I suggest a closet edit or personal shopping session? I serve all of San Diego county and love to help women take the stress out of getting dressed.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Though I don't own any camo clothing myself, I have several clients who do. It's one of the few trends this season that has my stamp of approval. Camo can work well with the neutrals in your wardrobe. It's also great for layering or juxtaposing with ultra-girly pieces. There are many ways to incorporate this print if you're ready to adopt the camo trend.
Add a shoe.
Tip-toe into this camo trend by adding a pair of camo booties or heels to your shoe collection. I have two clients that own this pair by Michael Kors and I am constantly surprised by how much use we get out of them. Like leopard or tortoise shell, camo is a print that allows you to mix your black and brown pieces without looking like you got dressed in the dark.
Layer it over a dress.
For the bold, try wearing a camo-print oxford or jacket over a t-shirt dress. You can leave it open for a relaxed look or roll up the sleeves and knot or belt it at the waist for a bit more shape.
Replace your go-to denim with camo.
Instead of reaching for that pair of jeans you've worn a hundred times, opt for a camo pant. This print can act like a neutral, making it a great option to pair with sweaters and tees in shades like grey, black, brown, beige, and white.
Go Full Hoosier
I was born in Indiana and lived there until I was a teenager. Camo never goes out of style in the Hoosier State. I was initially hesitant to pair camo with orange because it looks too much like hunting gear to my eyes. Yet, when I had a client last month who wasn't sure how to style a camo tee, we paired it with distressed jeans and orange sneakers; and it looked great.
While I noticed an uptick in bookings during September, October was even busier. I worked with a variety of women who had vastly different styles, so I had a lot of fun shopping for them last month. See below to check out some of what they picked up.
While it's still a chore to find decent tops that have flattering lines, the ones above got the job done. There's more good news--all of these tops are under $80.
Skirts were in this month. Even my clients who don't typically wear them found themselves loving the ones above.
These basic bottoms are background players that allow the statement pieces in my client's wardrobes' to shine.
With the holidays just around the corner, people were craving glamour. I discovered the Vince Camuto Jacquard dress (pictured last) while helping a client shop for her engagement photo look. While we ended up going with something more casual for her photos, two other clients picked up this insanely flattering dress. I highly recommend it.
